Tarzan, a human child, is raised by apes in the African jungle after his parents die. He grows up strong and wild, eventually becoming the leader of the ape tribe. When a group of humans, including Jane, arrive, Tarzan is fascinated and drawn to them. He learns about his human heritage and falls in love with Jane. With the help of a French officer, Tarzan travels to the civilized world and learns to speak English. He discovers his true identity as John Clayton II, the rightful heir to a noble title and estate. However, Jane is engaged to his cousin, William.
